Meet Mikelia

Mikelia Wallace is a board-certified and licensed music therapist who is passionate about encouraging self-exploration and skill development through music. She is particularly passionate about working with early intervention, neurodevelopmental disabilities, and medically complex youth. Mikelia practices through a neuro-affirming lens and is focused on taking an inventory of individual differences (sensory, motor, cognitive, emotional) and adapting and adjusting music interventions to accommodate and empower individuals.

She believes that music therapy is a brave space that is non-judgmental, safe, and organized, where anyone who loves to make music can thrive.

Mikelia is also heavily involved in music therapy advocacy efforts as past Vice President of the Oregon Association for Music Therapy, led the effort to establish the Florida Gulf Coast University’s Music Therapy Association, and is currently working on efforts to get music therapy reimbursement for families in Oregon.

Mikelia is supporting the education of young music therapists through observation opportunities, practicum, and internships.

Parent of an Autistic Child

“Miss Mikelia, from the first day with our son, speaks his language like no one else does. This is worth its weight in gold for a non-verbal autistic child. She is very musically talented and great at reading her patients. Our son is made to feel very comfortable in the sessions which allows him to be positively encouraged to try new things and or set limits. Our time there every week is a highlight, and we can’t give high enough marks to Mikelia.”

Parent of Medically Complex Child

“(Mikelia is) one of the most magical human beings that has been around my kids.”
